I've put this picture in my fav's mainly because I like the picture, and because I worked there a long time ago, when I was in University.

It is a tremendeous place to work, and to visit. I had the opportunity to meet people who drove me to Verdun, La Somme, Beaumont-Hamel, various bunkers, cemeteries (german, british and french) and caverns.
I met old ladies from France, Britain, Belgium or Holland who hugged me and gave me 10 box just because I was canadian. I do know and realize Canada has done a lot during both wars, but personnally, very humbly and honestly, I have never done much .....and did not personnaly deserve the money I was given. And yet, I would have insulted most of these people if I had refused. ..... and obvioulsy, as a bragging student, I was certainly happy to get a few extra dollars......

It is only sad that history classes throughout the country do not teach what happened then, what we did, and how we contributed. Too amny people wear a poppy without knowing tis significance, and without knowing that colonel John Mc Rae, medecine student in Mc Gill University, enrolled, wrote poems, one about poppies fields, and died before the end of the war.

I, as a quebecer, proud to be french-speaking, and worried about long-term survival of french language in Montreal, but also very proud of being canadian, depply regret that our institutions and politicians make nice demonstrations on TV, and at the same time, our children have forgotten what happened.

Vimy is a symbol, and it is an important one.

I very seldom wear the poppy, but each year since 1988, on the day of november 11th, I always take time to spent 5 minuts in a church in silence.
